LABI Scorecard

Design & Code

LABI, a pro business advocacy organization in Louisiana ranks legislators every year on how in line they voted with LABI’s core issues. This year, they wanted a fun interactive site to display their data that is normally in a PDF.

I. Guided Experience

Because this site is well out of the bounds of a traditional site, I wanted to design a guided experience through the content. The approach I settled on was having each content area be a “card” that users can slide through. I achieved this by using a library to modify the default scrolling behavior. The content animates in when the card is scrolled to.

II. React

I have been using React regularly in personal projects, and thought it would be a great option to build this project with. React has a component based architecture, and it was fun building specific components and having them dynamically render the data.

III. Interactivity

The site has a lot of data to display, so I display things in modals where I can. This enables a breezy high level scroll through of the site while also enabling visitors to find the specific information they are looking for fast.

Conclusion

The site launched to great fanfare, and serves as a central point in LABI’s effort to update their brand to be more relevant and cool. This was a great project to see where my skills could go as well, and I’m very happy with how it turned out!
